Some Recon

We have tickets to the September 11th Memorial in October.   I haven't been to the area in a few years, so I wanted to get reacquainted with the area before our October visit.

I think the last time I was there was in 2011 and the Freedom Tower was still under construction.

Things are quite different today!  Here is the Freedom Tower today.

The Transportation Center at the WTC is called the Oculus.

Inside the Transportation Hub.

Inside the Transportation Hub.

The reflecting pools in the bases of the WTC North and South towers are huge.  A big empty void of where two mighty buildings once stood.  Along the outer rim are the names of all the people that lost their life.  People from every walk of life.  People that are still remembered today.

Around the WTC site, are towering buildings.  Mostly new, mostly non-descript.  I turned around and saw this contrast of new and old.

The transportation hub connects the PATH Train and NYC Subway System.  It can also connect you to many office buildings and a shopping mall.  Inside the shopping mall was this exhibit where the birds appeared to be flying as the air pressure changed.  You can actually see a little movement in this wing.
