Unsure about Instagram

I joined the Instagram crowd.  I posted a couple of pictures of Molly and our travels in Maine, and I'm not 100% convinced that it's "worth it".

First off, I take a fair amount of time to edit my photos.  I have a certain style and when I'm done the files get exported to jpg format.  However, with Instagram photos I have to make a copy of them and re-edit them to fit the square crop.  Is that extra time worth it?

The square crop is also limiting.  When I take a photo, I frame it to tell the whole story, like this.  

I don't think this tells the same story.

Last thing that's a hassle is that I can't upload my pictures from my laptop directly to Instagram.  I have to get them over to my phone and THEN upload them to Instagram.   Not something I can't deal with, but another step that I don't have to do.

Maybe I just don't have the hang of this whole thing yet.
