Picture of the Day - Day 204 (de Blasio's New York)
Three pictures today.
Once a year I find myself going to NY City with the weekday commuters for a Doctor Appointment. Not the “tourist” New York that I visit with my wife on the weekends, but the “real” New York. Walking the 2 blocks in Harlem to catch the #6 train and then 6 or so blocks on the Upper East Side.
The last couple of years, I’ve noticed that the New York of Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg are slowly being erased. The city is dirtier today than it’s been in the last 16 years. I left feeling sad because the greatest city in the world is going to pot under Bill de Blasio. There was garbage everywhere you looked. There’s always trash on NYC streets. Neatly stacked bags of trash waiting to be rescued by NY Sanitation. But this time, the pure litter EVERYWHERE was overwhelming. It’s like people have just given up.
The police presence today, in my observation anyway, was markedly less than it has been in previous years. Sure, there was less people in Grand Central Station, but there is usually a cop within your line of sight on a normal day. Today, I think I saw one cop near the entrance and one on the main floor of Grand Central.
I don’t know, maybe it’s the pandemic. Maybe it’s just a bad day.
