Blithewold

We made a short trip to Newport, Rhode Island this week to see some of the mansions decorated for Christmas. Our first stop was Blithewold just outside of Newport. It was hard to get photos of a lot of the rooms as it was pretty crowded. So I opted for some detail shots around the mansion.

This ornament caught my eye. It was on a two story Christmas tree.

The first time I saw mismatched balustrades on a staircase, I thought it was unique. Turns out it’s pretty common on Gilded Age mansions.

The game room

Two sailing trophies from the game room.

A tiny tree decorated one of the bedrooms.

The millwork in this house was amazing.

A grandfather clock on the stair landing

A tree in one of the bigger bedrooms

My favorite photo from the whole house. They had one room decorated with maybe 20 trees and some cardinals hung from the ceiling. I caught this one with just enough light behind it to make it interesting.
