Last Days at Dover Furnace
Time draws neigh for shooting at Dover Furnace Shooting Grounds. They close for good on December 31st due to the property being sold.
Dover Furnace as been a staple in the Sporting Clays community for the last eight years. The CT Travelers have been there at least twice a year. They had a healthy schedule of NSCA Shoots over the last eight years. Jim and Jeanne Muncey have raised the bar in the Hudson Valley for public sporting clays courses.
The grounds at Dover Furnace were cut out from an old Iron Ore Blast Furnace. The Furnace remains a focal point of the grounds until today.
The New York City Mission Society operated the property as a summer camp for years as Camp Sharapoon.
Picture below from a point & shoot camera, but the memories are rich.
The two clowns in this picture had many good days at Dover Furnace. We considered it our "home" club and was always there when we needed a place to compete, practice, celebrate, or learn.
Sad to see it go.
