NYBG Train Show

We took a trip down to the New York Botanical Gardens over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend to see the Holiday Train Show.  The NYBG sets up the Haupt Conservatory with a number of G scale trains and scenes around New York.  All the scenes are built from natural "refuse" from the gardens; branches that have fallen off, trees that have died, leaves from the fall.

The photo to the left was a model of the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory at the NYBG.  I thought it would be awesome to capture the model train as it was passing this magnificent structure.  I almost nailed it, but there is a little blur to the train because I didn't have my shutter speed fast enough.  I checked it out on the back of the camera and thought I nailed it and moved on.  Only later once I got it on the computer did I realize that I was too slow.  Oh well, a good image but not a 5 star.

When we finished with the train show, we took a walk around the gardens. We came by the man and woman above.  I guess they were trying to take a picture for their holiday card.  She whipped out the tripod and proceeded to take about ten photos of the two of them.  She would set the camera, run to him, and they would put the cheesy smiles on and the flash would pop.  Oy vey.  I hope they got a good picture, but I doubt it.

Most of the plants in the garden had lost their leaves.  The plants that set their buds for the next year were interesting, but hard to take a meaningful picture of.  I found this one branch where the last leaf of the whole plant was still hanging on, even though the new buds were already set.  I thought it was a juxtaposition of the new and the old at the moment before one said goodbye to the other.
