More Hockey

I seem to be attracted to hockey with the 7D Mark 2.  The Area Autofocus system is really very nice when shooting sports.  I shot the Wilton HS vs. Ridgefield HS Girls Hockey a couple nights ago at the Winter Garden Ice Arena in Ridgefield.  Both teams use this arena as their home ice.

The nice thing about the Winter Garden Arena is that there is a spot under the announcer's booth where you can duck under the netting and get some clear shots at your own risk.  You're about seven feet above the ice, so it's relatively safe at the High School level.

Unfortunately for the Wilton Girls, I spent most of the time on their end of the ice.  Lots of saves for the goalie, but not enough.

I shot the whole game at ISO 2000 at 1/400th of a second and f/2.8.  I had the 70-200mm in most of the night and occasionally switched off the the 17-55 for a little bit.  I didn't get very many good shots with the 17-55, but it's probably too wide for hockey.

The Ridgefield Coach was pretty animated.  She was definitely into the game, but that's not hard to do when your team is up 5-0.

The picture below might be a candidate for "Best Hockey Photo Ever" if it wasn't for this one.  Maybe it will show up in my "Best Photos of 2016" in 50 weeks!
